Justice of the Peace Evelyn McLean, Precinct Three

Evelyn McLeanEvelyn McLean began a career in law enforcement in 1991 as a Communications Operator for the Pflugerville Police Department. It was while doing this type of work, she discovered she couldn’t sit still behind the console when a “hot call” came in. Evelyn began the Travis County Sheriff’s Academy in Austin, TX in 1993 and immediately started working as a reserve officer for the Manor Police Department prior to the academy graduation. Six months later, she landed her first full time police job with the Taylor Police Department. While at the Taylor Police Department she gained a vast amount of experience in a short period of time, due to the high number of felony and in-progress calls that were handled daily. Evelyn was promoted from Patrol Officer to Corporal with the Taylor Police Department.

Evelyn decided to make the career move to Georgetown Police Department because of future growth potential. In January 1997, Evelyn was hired as a Patrol Officer with the Georgetown Police Department, where she remained until she retired in 2018. In 1998 she served on the Williamson County Gang Task Force and was also named “Officer of the Year”.

Evelyn promoted to:
Sergeant in 1999
Lieutenant in 2001
Captain in 2011

She has commanded Patrol, Special Operations, Communications, Criminal Investigations, and Professional Standards. Evelyn also served over ten years as the Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Georgetown.

Evelyn has her Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Applied Sciences from Midwestern State University with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, where she graduated magna cum laude. She is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership & Command College at Sam Houston State University, is an honors graduate of the Austin Police Department's Leadership Academy, and also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. Evelyn was also selected to travel to Poland to participate in an International Police Exchange Program through LEMIT at Sam Houston State University in 2013.

Further, Evelyn has been a licensed real estate agent since 2002. She has also been featured in the book Genuinely Georgetown and the book Behind the Texas Badge.

Evelyn is blessed with a husband of over 25 years. They have one daughter, a son in law, and a precious grandson. Evelyn is active in her church and the community. For four years, Evelyn was a mentor with the Georgetown ISD Partners in Education program, worked with Blue Santa for many years, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity Women Build Week. Evelyn thoroughly enjoys serving others.

Evelyn describes her career as both “rich & rewarding” and believes that almost three decades of policing and proven leadership experience have thoroughly prepared her for the role of Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3.
