Property Tax Deadline Approaching

The Williamson County Tax Assessor/Collector’s office reminds property owners that 2016 property taxes must be paid in full by January 31st to avoid accruing penalties and interest.

Tax Assessor/Collector Larry Gaddes said, “State law requires any 2016 property taxes not paid on or before January 31st to be considered delinquent and must have an additional 7 percent penalty and interest added to the tax bill as of February 1.   Taxpayers who are not able to pay the full amount by Jan. 31 are encouraged to pay as much as possible so that they accrue as little penalty and interest as possible.”

The Williamson County Tax Office offers numerous ways to pay your taxes including:

  • Online at www.wilco.org/paytax using Credit/Debit card (2.19% vendor fee applies)
  • Online using E-Check ($1.00 vender fee applies)
  • Mailed to 904 S. Main St., Georgetown, TX 78626
  • In person at any location – make a same day appointment at www.wilco.org/paytaxes
  • Drop box at the Georgetown location only to the right of the front door

New this year is the ability to make a same day appointment that will keep you from having to wait in line.  Go online to get in line and spend your time at home or running errands while you wait for your appointment.  You can then check in at the kiosk in the office at your appointment time and experience almost no wait.  There is a night drop box at the Georgetown office only, to the right of the front door.   Any payments postmarked or carried into the office on or after February 1 will be charged the state-mandated 7% penalty and interest.  Mailed payments should be sent to 904 S. Main St., Georgetown, TX, 78626.

“Penalties and interest continue to increase and additional attorney’s fees are applied to any remaining balance on delinquent accounts as of July 1.  If they have a balance remaining in July, taxpayers may come to our office and sign a payout agreement with our tax attorneys.  Our goal is to collect property taxes for the jurisdictions that we represent, not to foreclose on delinquent property,” stated Williamson County Tax Assessor/Collector Larry Gaddes.

For answers to many questions about property taxes, visit the County Tax Assessor/Collector’s website at http://www.wilco.org/taxoffice/  or call 512-943-1603.  Tax Assessor/Collector offices are open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of the month with new hours of operation starting February 6, 2017. Offices are located at:
